Actions and Results, Intent and Action, What is Right Action?

This video discusses whether you will get the result for your actions based on the intentions behind the action or the actual action itself. It is the intention that makes an action correct or incorrect and not the action that determines this. There is further thought around how God judges us: on actions or intentions?

If the intent behind any action is right but the action taken appears to be wrong to those around you, they will judge you based on your actions. There is no way for others to know the intent behind your action. Intent is internal and not known to others. You, on one hand, may feel internally at peace and may not be disturbed as you know your intent was correct. However, you may still be faced with a negative external reaction with respect to the people involved as they may feel that you have done something incorrect. Many a relationships get affected when you feel that your intent is right but people feel that your action was wrong. The relationship may even end. In such a case your happiness and equanimity may not be affected adversely. However, in the opposite case where your intent is incorrect, it may keep pricking your conscience.

The speaker was asked the question: would God judge us on actions or intent. His answer was that you may or may not believe in God and may even negate God. Had God been an external person, He would have judged your actions and rewarded accordingly. God is your inner self, He will choose intent to judge you.

Inclusive Work Culture – the True Game-Changer

Matching talent, skills and work culture can be one of the biggest challenges faced by the management in any organization. An inclusive workplace is a working environment that values the individual and group differences within its work force. It helps make diverse employees feel valued, welcome, integrated and included in the workforce instead of unappreciated, ignored, and isolated.

When the very talented and technically sound Tarun joined the team, there already was a lot of disgruntlement among the existing team members. Making matters worse, he had an air of contempt along with a tendency to routinely behave rudely with some of the junior team members. With each passing day, it was becoming more and more obvious that he was overtly sugar-coated and dramatic in his interactions with the higher-ups while being rather double-faced and unreasonable with the rest of the team. As a result, the team began to take matters into its own hands and never missed an opportunity to target Tarun for any and every office joke. Refusing to support him in group tasks led by him was a given. It became increasingly clear that one of the two scenarios were imminent – either Tarun, an asset to the team would run for dear (professional) life, or the team comprising seasoned resource persons would collectively complain to the leadership team in a bid to lay bare his deceitful self. Either which way, the resulting unrest would be a complete ‘lose-lose situation’ for the organization!

The importance of empathy for team members, soft skills (social skills & emotional intelligence) at the workplace training cannot be stressed enough. Sensitization to such concepts can often be disseminated through Soft skills training programs. If conducted as a well thought out intervention, the target behaviours can be internalized, with long lasting positive results for the individual, team as well as the organization.

Consider these Five Best Practices for Creating an Inclusive Work Culture:

• Policies – By setting clear-cut policies, organizations have the opportunity to communicate their commitment to ensuring diversity and equality.

• Leadership Skills Training – Train Senior Leadership and Managers on the importance of a high degree of sensitivity while watching out for tell-tale signs of unrest within the team and acting upon the same in a timely and effective way.

• Open Communication Channels – Create a Safe Way for Employees to Communicate any problem they might face.

• Buddy System – Invest time and resources into developing an efficient Buddy System to hand-hold new joiners until they find it comfortable to go about work with minimum guidance. The duration may be decided upon depending on the complexity of work environment as well as the nature of task at hand.

• Community Connect – A strong ecosystem to catch warning signs early enough to tackle before the harm is done and to step in when required can go a long way in making it a smooth sail for team members.

Creating an inclusive workplace only requires the leadership to take cognizance of the need for it – the rest of it simply falls in place thereafter. It is best to trust specialist soft skills training companies in India with taking care of your specific business soft skills training needs, considering the very unique market reality that exists here.

Top 10 Finer Aspects of Making a BIG Impression

What sets one apart from the rest at work? Is it being appropriately dressed, or exemplifying immaculate conduct? Is it the aura of being in control, or that of someone bankable? Is it an empathetic nature, or the best reaction to a sticky situation? Or a combination of all of it, maybe!

Exemplary professional etiquette is an unwritten code of conduct that governs interactions among colleagues in a business setting. This is an important part of soft skill training programs because it creates a professional, mutually respectful work atmosphere, and improves communication, which translates into better customer relationships. Simply put, it’s a complete win-win!

Here are the basics of professional etiquette for success:

1. Ace the ‘first impression’ game.
Most business soft skills training interventions highlight this aspect: introducing yourself with your full name helps set you apart from the crowd and also makes it easier for people to find you on professional networking sites so you can stay connected. With a firm handshake thrown in, you are all set to take your networking game to the next level.

2. Be on time, every time.
Punctuality is something that most soft skills training companies in India are having to grapple with. It’s needless to say, being on time, you respect everyone else’s time, and command the same from others.

3. Be on your best conduct, especially during meetings.
Mobile phones need to be placed on silent mode. Besides being prepared for meetings, limit yourself to the most important questions during the meeting and then follow up with an email after it ends, so as to not delay others. Also, when you’ve been sitting for a while, it’s natural to be tempted to fidget. Instead of appearing restless, try to appear calm and composed at all times.

4. Let your work station mirror your impeccable personality.
Get rid of any clutter and keep personal items off the work desk. Avoid eating at your desk so as to not risk irritating a colleague who might be sensitive to pungent odours.

5. Keep all things personal and professional, mutually exclusive.
While it’s good to socialize, walking into someone’s workstation unannounced is avoidable. Personal calls during work hours are best avoided, unless there’s an emergency. Ensure mobile phones have neutral ring tones, and do not speak loudly, lest you disturb colleagues.

6. Acknowledge emails promptly and reply to everyone on emails only when it’s necessary.
It’s always a great idea to send an interim reply to emails. Also, use the ‘Reply to All’ option with caution. If the email thread gets more specific, remember to remove people who don’t need that information.

7. Follow up unanswered voice calls with a message.
Avoid hounding someone with multiple calls; instead, simply send a message mentioning the purpose of the call, in brief.

8. Praise loudly, blame softly.
Here’s something most corporate soft skills training sessions don’t teach: constructive criticism is best when shared in private, since nobody likes being called out for a faux pas in public. Simply put yourself in the shoes of the other person and you would instantly have a lot of clarity as to how to proceed, when faced with a tricky situation.

9. Be kind – it costs nothing!
Spread smiles: there’s nothing wrong with holding doors open for one another, showing appreciation to team members and complimenting colleagues on a task done well.

10. Make a conscious effort to be genuine at all times.
A simple practice of establishing eye contact during conversations goes a long way, and one confident and sincere ‘thank you’ is sufficient to strike a chord with just about anyone in your professional network.

Follow these business etiquette rules to get ahead in your career!

Results of actions – Does God decide?

This video explores the concept of God as the giver of the fruit of our actions. Is there an external God that gives us the results of our actions? The speaker says that every action has a result inbuilt into it; the Law of cause and effect. The thought that God is the dispenser of the fruit of our actions is not correct.

For any action, there is a ‘Doer’ of the action and there is a ‘Thinker’ of the intent. The seeds of the result are sown in the action or the intent itself. We do not require any external God to come and give us the results of our actions. The action itself has the results inbuilt into it. God does not enter the equation of actions and their consequent result, this is determined by cause and effect.

Why does attachment cause pain?

In life we often see that things that mean the most to us also cause the us the maximum pain. Why does this happen? This video explores the inherent connection between deep attachment to an object, the pain it often brings and why this happens.

There is a fatal law of attachment. The law states that if you are deeply attached to a being or an object, nature will allow you to enjoy that object or being as long as it has instilled itself to your heart and soul. And then it will be taken away from you. This law is natural and it cannot be broken.

The reason for this seemingly cruel law is that Nature wants you to be attached to your true self and this is nature’s way of correction.

Relevance of Vedic Knowledge

This video discusses the relevance of the Vedas in our life today. It explains the different parts of the Vedas and how the study of the first three parts can lead to external happiness or the improvement in the quality of our external life. However, the fourth part of the Vedas is meant for seekers of Happiness within and the study of this portion leads us to discover our natural state, which is happiness. This video series deals with what is written in the fourth part of the Vedas. The language used is not from the Vedas; it uses language we easily understand today.

The goal of mankind is happiness which is to discover its natural state. There are four Vedas and each Veda has four parts. The first three parts of each Veda (i.e. twelve parts in total) are a compilation of knowledge and experiences of various Sages and masters who were experts in their own field. These tell us as to how a situation in external environment can give man happiness; how Man needs to interact with nature become Ayurveda, how man interacts with man becomes Political Science etc.

Ayurveda is one aspect where we deal with how plants and other things that are found in nature could be used to bring wellness to man. There are certain Mantras in the first three parts which are meant to increase our happiness from the world outside.

However, some people, even after having accumulated external factors that contribute to happiness like health, wealth etc. do not feel completely fulfilled and happy. The fourth part of the Veda is meant for such people. It is the portion that deals with how to discover Happiness internally.

The fourth part of the Vedas has the 108 Upanishads. Assuming that each Upanishad is one way, then there are 108 ways to discover happiness. Each of these Upanishads teaches us how to remove the cloud and discover happiness internally and not accumulate it externally…So we are dealing with the topics of the fourth portion of Vedas more, their various aspects, their mechanisms.

Blueprint for Happiness – Part 8

We now come to the final portion of the Blueprint of Happiness. If we have set a goal according to the 2 conditions discussed so far and performed the right actions to work towards the goal, how should I behave if the results are not in line with my expectations? What kind of an attitude should I work with to be able to achieve my goals?

Part 08 of the Blueprint of Happiness series talks about the attitude of “Prasada Buddhi” to accept unfavorable results in life.

So far we thought that we need to add ‘things’, a car, a house, a holiday etc… to ‘become happy’. Now we know that we need to discover Happiness, which is our natural state. To do that we need to set our life goals based on the two conditions discussed & perform actions that lead to fulfilment of our goals. If on the way we get results as per expectations or exceeding expectations, it makes us happy and motivates us to work with greater vigor. If we get results which are less than what we expected, how do we deal with this unhappy situation?

This video discusses a simple technique called ‘Prasada Buddhi’ or the the art of acceptance to handle such eventualities. We perform actions to the best of our ability and accept the results as a blessing from the Lord. This attitude will help us accept unfavorable results and continue to work with renewed vigor. The concept of Prasada Buddhi has been explained with the help of a simple yet powerful corollary of going to the temple to pray.

When we work with the attitude of ‘Prasada Buddhi’, it reduces the cloud that veils our natural state of Happiness. It allows us to continue to work with renewed vigor and vitality, even when faced with unfavorable results. This helps us remove the cloud in our mind and discover Happiness which is our natural state.

Blueprint for Happiness – Part 7

We are now closer to completing our Blueprint to discover Happiness. In order to discover happiness, we need to set clear goals based on our natural inclination and perform the right actions to achieve our goals & discover Happiness.

In Part 07 of the Blueprint of Happiness series, we talk about how to work to achieve our goals and discover internal happiness. What is “Duty”? What kind of actions are forbidden actions? Can we fulfill our desires and do our duty at the same time?

To remove the cloud covering the “Happy Me”, we have to work to achieve goals set in life. The goals should be set based on a person’s Swadharma (discussed in the previous video) and one level higher than the individual’s need.

Duty is defined as those activities which take us towards our goals. DRA (Desire Ridden Activity) are those activities which allow us to enjoy a desire we have; these neither take us towards our goals or away from them. FA (Forbidden Actions) are all those actions which take us away from our goals. These concepts have been beautifully explained with the help of 2 examples in this video.

The First Step in the Leadership Journey – Owning It

“To think about your life is to create it.” – Unknown

There is an interesting job interview scenario doing the rounds on various social media platforms of late, about how a candidate gets hired largely by virtue of positive attitude and taking ownership. Seemingly unimportant deeds such as switching off the lights when one is the last person to leave the room, or even acknowledging the security personnel, go a long way in making the right impression to prospective employers. In a similar vein I recently read a newspaper article where a candidate did not get hired for the position of a CEO because the organization took a negative view of him screaming at the driver of the company cab that had been designated to take him for his interview.

Some of us may be tricked into believing that Leadership skills training is only relevant in the professional setting. Nothing can be farther from reality than this! In fact, of the various subtle indicators of personality traits from a very young age, the capacity to take ownership is a great tool to correctly predict who is cut out for the long haul, as against a weak-kneed person who may require additional support to get ahead in the ‘race’ that is life.

The ability to take ownership is clearly one of the first steps in displaying leadership qualities. Taking ownership implies, standing up and announcing that you are responsible for each and every action of yours. At work, taking ownership would simply mean, being accountable for a project within your specific job description.
Ownership aside, there are a few other corporate soft skills training focus areas that are integral to effective Leadership:

• Communication is one of the most important skills of a leader is to be able to communicate effectively.

• Awareness and the capacity to take informed decisions are crucial too.

• Honesty and integrity are non-negotiable aspects.

• Relationship Building holds the key to sustained growth and development of everyone involved.

• Innovation is necessary to augment progress and avoid the risk of stagnation.

• Developing Leadership Skills is vital since delegation is a crucial aspect of diversification and in the absence of an able succession pipeline, the entire effort is as good as a house of cards about to collapse.

While it is easier said than done, simply put, a good leader takes the lead, and displays exemplary courage, clear vision with ambition to succeed and a charismatic, positive persona. Also noteworthy is the fact as someone famously said, “Delegation works only when the person delegating works!” Good leaders also invariably emphasize on soft skills training for employees and encourage the team to perform to their optimum all the time and drive organisational success.

As intangible as the word ‘Leadership’ is, the kinds of Leadership that one may opt to display can be mind boggling. Transformational Leadership is exemplified by leaders who encourage, inspire and motivate employees to innovate and create change that will help grow and shape the future success of the company. In other words, such leaders ‘Walk the Talk’. Thought Leadership is another level altogether. As these persons are perceived to be seasoned subject matter experts and the go-to people in their respective fields of expertise, they are trusted resources who guide and inspire people with innovative ideas, and help turn ideas into reality, by demonstrating how to replicate their success.

If you are ready to progress to the next level in your personal Leadership Journey, there is no time to waste – make haste, and embark of discovering the ‘Leader in You’ by way of the various business soft skills training programs available.

Why How You Say What You Say Matters the Most!

Mastering the English language and improving vocabulary is usually far from sufficient when it comes to making an impression by way of superior inter personal skills. In order to enhance communication skills, the concept of listening to and responding appropriately, by using voice modulation and other soft skills, is far more important. For this reason, voice and accent training is an essential facet of the BPO industry.

Overall, the vital role played by the right voice and accent to ensure customer delight cannot be emphasized enough. Try this brief activity to test this yourself:

Step 1: Record your own voice on a voice recorder saying “Hello” with a straight face.
Step 2: Next, record the same again, this time, but with a little difference – say it with a smile.
Step 3: Share the two recordings to a trusted friend or acquaintance.
Step 4: Ask the person to guess which one sounded pleasant.
Step 5: Compare results and see whether the listener is able to match the voice with the mood.

Prepare to be surprised at the other person’s ability to correctly predict the one with the smile.
It is true – it is indeed possible to ‘Hear A Smile’!

All the focus on voice and accent, and sounding pleasant while answering a telephone call may be highly underrated, and hence the need to answer the telephone with a smile, every single time, in order to make a lasting, positive impression, even when the caller is unable to ‘see’ you in person.

Statistics reveal that only 7% of the words you utter is truly heard. Of the remaining, 38 % is the tone used or how you say it and the largest chunk – 55% depends on the gestures that accompany the speech, more commonly known as body language. The pressure on the communicator to send the right signals is all the more important if the interaction is in person, since any lack of conviction is instantly seen, by way of contradictory body language! On the flip side, during a telephonic conversation, one has to put in that much additional effort in the absence of body language to help you convey your point of view. It is no surprise therefore, that English language training and Voice and Accent training is a vital part of the business soft skills training across industry.

Irrespective of the role or industry you are a part of, corporate soft skills training can make the difference between success and failure, thanks to the pivotal role it plays. The good thing is, there are plenty of programs available to help participants with improving their spoken skills. These training programs are designed for participants to improve upon their voice and accent, a very important aspect of soft skills training. Aimed at helping participants to neutralise elements of their speech, overcome any traces of Mother Tongue Influence (also known as MTI), and speak confidently with a more global accent, this is surely a worthy investment to make!

Blueprint for Happiness – Part 6

Our problem statement has now changed from “How do I become Happy” to “How do I discover Happiness”, which is my natural state. We need to work in a manner that allows us to discover our true nature which is 100% Happiness, 100% of the time. Part 06 of the Blue print of Happiness series is devoted to how we should Work to remove the cloud of ignorance and and to find the Sun of Happiness. To do this, one needs to identify a clear Goal in life and work towards achievement of that goal. This process, if done properly, will lead to discovery of our natural state of happiness. The goal to be achieved, needs to be set in a manner that is in tune with an individual’s desires also called swa-dharma.

The goal should be the one which the individual wants to achieve and finds pleasure in working towards. For example, if you are drawn towards a creative field and end up being an accountant, it will lead to misery. The second condition of the goal is that it needs to be 1 level higher than the individual’s need. The larger the number of people whose benefit you keep in mind while working towards your goal, the larger is the amount of energy that is available to you to work with. More the energy more the happiness.

Blueprint for Happiness – Part 5

Based on what we have heard so far in the Blueprint of Happiness, we have seen that the focus in our life should be how to discover our natural state, which is happiness. We don’t need to add different things and objects to become happy.

In Part 05 of the Blue print of Happiness series, it is explained that every individual desires to be 100% happy. Also it is a basic fact of Life that “One cannot desire anything unknown”. The natural corollary that follows is that I am Naturally Happy and I know 100% Happiness. This Happiness is centered in me as I know myself the best.

The knowledge of a person can be divided into 2 parts. One part consists of the knowledge about what he knows and the second part of his knowledge is about what he does not know. Hence every individual is aware of what he knows and what he is ignorant of. This proves that in essence you are all knowing.

Why It Is Important for You to Truly Walk, Talk and Laugh English

How many times have you cringed at the use of a wrong word when a senior professional is addressing an audience? Even worse, there is no way to know if you are one of them, until and unless candid feedback from peers is sought. How about a poorly worded email or letter that finds its way to your work-desk? What is your impression of the sender in this case? Not very positive one, for sure. Now-a-days, sadly, even popular print media seems to have fallen victim to the vicious clutch of typos and grammatical errors!

Consider this, “Don’t stop…” as against, “Don’t! Stop!!”. See the stark contrast in meaning simply by bringing in punctuation? And this is only the tip of the iceberg, since the choice of words can make a world of difference in effective communication.

Also, how many times have you heard: “Can I call you back?”. For the uninitiated, there is a classic response to this in the form of an old joke that goes, “I’m not sure whether you CAN or CANNOT, but YES, you MAY call me back”.

Finer nuances of the English language lay down that CAN depends on the will of the person speaking it and need not necessarily be permission-seeking, like the word MAY. Hence the need to always say, “May I call you back?”. While the need to speak the English language effectively has been much debated in our country, statistics reveal that it is best to invest in upping English language skills. While it is important not to forget one’s roots and hold on to the mother tongue, it is equally important to learn the English language with a special focus on avoiding any ‘mother tongue influence’ on diction as well as pronunciation.

The second most spoken language in the world, English is also the most widely used medium of communication on the internet. This in itself is reason enough for one to ensure that English language training is taken, if necessary, to be on the top of their game. After all, the crux of soft skills training is to be able to make oneself heard loud and clear, without offending anyone, however unpleasant the message might be!

An integral part of soft skills training for employees, English language training is an aspect that usually takes a lot more of hard work and diligent efforts to master. The onus rests largely on the learner to develop a genuine interest and flair for the language, rather than looking for short-cuts to memorize a few ‘heavy’ words and make do with dropping these occasionally in an attempt to make a big impression on listeners. Painstaking efforts are usually required from both sides – that of the learner as well as the tutor, to ensure that the English language training module is effective in every sense of the word.

Remember: A little help from experts at is all it takes to ace the English language game!

Blue Print for Happiness – Part 4

The question we have to think about is if Happiness is my natural state, then why is it that I don’t experience it all times? Why is it that I feel unhappy at times, if happiness is an integral part of me?

Having shown that Happiness is natural to all, in Part 04 of the Blue print of Happiness series, we discuss that we tend not to be happy at all times. It can be said that we lose our “Happy Self” somewhere. If we compare our “Happy Self” to being the Sun, then we can say that this “Happy Self” gets hidden behind a “Cloud of ignorance”. In our ignorance we may feel that the sun has not risen today or that I am not a happy person. But the reality is that a cloud has hidden the sun from us. We just need to remove the cloud of ignorance and discover the Sun of our “Happy Self”.

Blue Print for Happiness – Part 3

In order for Discover Happiness in our lives, it is important to define what the problem is. Do I need to “work” and add objects to become happy or is Happiness my internal state of mind and I just need to discover it?

In Part 03 of the Blue print of Happiness series, it is pointed out that every object has certain natural properties that define it and are expected of it. For example, sugar is sweet and expected to be sweet. In other words, sweetness is the natural property of sugar. We don’t complain when sugar is sweet. Same way when we are happy we have no complaints. The corollary is that “I am naturally happy”.

The lesson is that I don’t need external objects to be happy. Happiness is my internal state of mind. We can enjoy objects but our Happiness doesn’t need to depend on objects.

Blue Print for Happiness – Part 2 contd.

Once we decide to analyze the reason for our unhappiness and have ascertained that the reason is an internal one.  The question, which we face is: “ If I am feeling unhappy, which Law of living that I have broken?” This is the starting point of our journey to Discover Happiness.

In Part 02 of the Blue print of Happiness series, it has been pointed out that the wrong answer to the equation in question was arrived at because of a mathematical law that we broke, the absurdity of trying to divide a numerical quantity by zero. Due to this absurdity, the result arrived at was also absurd. The aim of this exercise is to bring home the point that we arrive at absurd or unhappy results in life because we have broken a fundamental law of life. We need to examine our thought processes and our way of living to recognize where we are going wrong.

Blueprint for Happiness – Part 1

We all look for reasons for our unhappiness. We forget to analyze the true cause of it. In reality, we need to follow two basic rules first knowing the problem and secondly understanding the actual reason for the unhappiness.

We as humans have a tendency of blaming external causes for our unhappiness which in reality may be an internal one. Hence it is a must that once we have figured out the problem, we analyze the actual reason for our unhappiness.

In Part 01 of the Blue print of Happiness series, an equation is written on the board, solving which the result arrived at apparently is incorrect/absurd. It is rightly pointed out that the incorrect /absurd answer arrived at is not, and cannot be, because of external factors such as the type of board used to write it on or because of the sketch pen used to write the equation with. Apparently the fault lies with the way the equation is solved. The lesson being driven home is that we have the erroneous tendency to blame numerous external factors as the cause of our unhappiness whereas the root cause is within us. We don’t realize this critical input about how we think. This is the reason we are unable to correctly work out our inner equation to Happiness.

Why Soft Skills Training is NOT ‘Rocket-Science’

Perhaps one of the greatest challenges of the present-day, fast-paced lives is mastering the art of being diplomatic, despite the all-pervasive paucity of time. Each of us tend to get so caught up with getting our ‘agenda’ accomplished in the shortest duration of time, that there’s a huge tendency to be too curt, sans any attempt to be courteous and mindful of the other person’s sensibilities.

It would not be wrong to say: Soft Skills = Foundation Skills. Simply think of how susceptible a structure is, if not for a strong foundation!

While it’s easy to blame the lack of communications skills on the ‘digital era’ and being ‘busy’, those who do recognize and emphasize on the need for soft skills training for employees, the results are for all to see: a much sharper upward trend on the growth curve and contented team members being notable outcomes.

What are Soft Skills?
Unlike technical or ‘hard’ skills, which can be measured, soft skills are generally considered intangible and difficult to quantify. Examples of soft skills include effective communication, analytical thinking, team work, problem-solving, time management, conflict resolution, leadership, etc.

Most soft skills are acquired with steadfast focus and customized interventions including simulations, bite-sized videos, role-playing games, etc., aimed at discernibly achieving positive outcomes. The good news is, several virtual platforms are now available for this purpose, if an in-person intervention is not feasible owing to logistical, financial, or any other reasons.

What is ROI?
One term that is uttered in the same breath as business soft skills training is ROI (Return on Investment). This refers to the various control and measurement systems are employed so as to track the impact of the amount spent on each corporate soft skills training intervention. As organizations grow and evolve, keeping a close watch on the ROI is the new norm, down to the department level. The ever-growing shortage of skills and talent, soft skills training tends to account for a major portion of the training budget and hence, the need to measure the ROI of soft skills is now more necessary than ever.

So, why is there such a lot of focus on the ROI of soft skills training? The answer is an entire array of benefits!

These include:

• Improved teamwork and customer service

• Improved productivity

• Lower absenteeism

• Improved retention rates

• Better workplace communication and a higher level of employee engagement

In a nut shell, there are clear correlations that have been drawn between investment in soft skill training programs having a positive impact on the bottom line. Taking time to analyse how different training methods impact a business’ bottom line can give trainers better insight into their own effectiveness as well as provide useful signposts to develop learning techniques and to work more efficiently. As for ways to measure ROI, measuring Customer Satisfaction scores at regular intervals of time as well as before and after an intervention is a fail-safe method.

It’s always a great idea to invest in improving soft skills of the workforce – start now if you haven’t already!

The Fine Art of Inconveniencing People and Making Their Lives Miserable

“One can’t please everyone” – they say… and ruthless as it may sound, “the job has to get done”… It’s great to be a task-master, but eventually, it is one who has a way with words and dealing with people tactfully, who emerges the winner.

Consider this scenario:

• Open office setting with multiple seating in one large hall

• Last working day of a team member

• Rest of the team preparing to huddle for a send-off party of sorts for a colleague, who has completed all exit formalities

• One of the senior team members has been instrumental in hiring the replacement for this exiting employee, makes this statement loudly:

Pin-drop silence ensues in the hall

It was a well-meaning comment, intended to make the exiting employee feel missed, and also to excitedly introduce the new joiner to the rest of the team. While the objective of the comment was far from making the former team-member feel miserable while bidding farewell to the organization, the effect was that the said person swore never to set foot in the office premises ever again. Not to mention how bitter a moment it was for everyone who witnessed the scene, shuddering to think to themselves, “How would I have reacted if this statement was made to me, that too by one of the more responsible members of the leadership team in this organization?” Luckily, better sense prevailed and the matter did not get blown out of proportion thanks to a few tactful ones as part of the team, who decided to change the topic quickly, and successfully managed to shift the conversation towards friendly banter as everyone shuffled into the farewell party zone.

Blame it on a case of sheer lack of basic soft skills training for employees early in their careers, but the harm is already done! If it can happen to an internal customer, it is only a matter of time before an external customer gets to face the wrath of words that are not carefully chosen and weighed before being uttered. The ramifications may not be as simple then. Instances of poor customer experiences spelling doom for reputed brands abound and this is reason enough to invest in soft skills training for employees.

Making oneself heard loud and clear, without offending anyone, is the crux of soft skills training. More so in professional life, corporate soft skills training can be an absolute boon; especially when there is a growing focus on people skills at the very core of professional success.

While there is increased focus on the need for soft skills training for employees abroad, it is pertinent to consider the unique Indian market scenario before blindly pursuing a fancy course. It is always a great idea to invest in renowned soft skills training companies in India to ensure you get insights that suit Indian realities better.

And despair not – options to choose from are aplenty!
